June 2010
Clarkes of London have today provided sixteen vehicles for President Sarkozy's visit to London to commemorate the 70th Aniversary of Charles de Gaulle's defiant World War II appeal to the French to resist the Nazi occupation.
Under Police escort, Clarkes safely transported the 720 VIP guests from St Pancras Station to Chelsea Hospital and return.
On 18th June 1940, as the French government prepared to sign an armistice with the Nazis, General de Gaulle called on French citizens to continue the war against Germany and appealed to all troops to rally under his command in London.
Mr Sarkozy and his wife Carla Bruni-Sarkozy visited BBC's Broadcasting House in central London where de Gaulle delivered his legendary address. They were later met by Prince Charles for a tour of the London headquarter's of the Free French.
